The myth of the light colour in LED lighting

LED was born around the middle of the XX century, but it has been in last years when its use has spread in lighting. Today, it can replace halogen lamps in indoor installations, compact flourescence and also discharge lamps and lineal flourescence in some applications, with energy savings up to 80%. It is important to understand that this is not like that always in any application nor with any LED product.

Often we find solutions whose characteristics confuse the users, so they cause distrust over LED lighting in general.

A recurrent concern in our clients is light colour. They tend to think that LED lamps and luminaires have a bluish colour temperature, offering a very bad lighting quality and causing visual discomfort. This myth has a great part of truth because in its origin and even today, LED diodes with these tonalities are used as the only resource to achieve high performance or a great lighting level feeling. In fact, a light colour above 5600K is not recommended because it is similar to ultraviolet light.

In LUXINTEC we use light colours from 2700K (very warm white light), offering the highest light utilisation factor and visual comfort in any light tonality thanks to our optical system XQUARE OPTICS.

The Chromatic Reproduction Index (CRI) shows the capacity of a light source to reproduce colours accurately. For indoor applications, an ideal CRI is around 85, and in industrial instalations or in outdoor lighting can be lower depending on the application.

In LUXINTEC we have control over the exact reference of each LED consignment to keep all lighting parameters in further phases of our clients’ projects, so we guarantee that the light tonality is exactly the same.
